Award-Winning "Port" Holiday Home Showcases Seamless Integration of Luxury, Functionality, and Scenic Beauty in Kaohsiung

Chu Chieh Liang's "Port" holiday home, located in the bay area of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2025. Inspired by the symbolism of a harbor as a place of freedom and arrival, the residence offers a sophisticated sanctuary that harmonizes with its maritime surroundings. The design leverages a luxurious black palette and strategic construction techniques to highlight the breathtaking views of the sea and sky, while ensuring comfort and functionality for its occupants.

The project was conceived as a gathering place for the owner's family and friends, with a layout tailored for both short stays and extended visits. The original two-bedroom configuration was reimagined to accommodate three bedrooms, maximizing comfort without sacrificing space. Innovative solutions, such as using wardrobes as sound-insulating partitions instead of traditional walls, provide privacy and ample storage while maintaining a sense of openness. The living, dining, and bar areas are thoughtfully arranged to foster social interaction, with each space reflecting the distinct habits of the homeowners.

Addressing structural challenges such as low beams and prominent columns, the design team opted for an open ceiling concept, enhanced by decorative grilles and flat nail ceilings to preserve vertical space. The use of black tones with reflective surfaces, including black mirrors beneath beams, subtly conceals structural elements and draws attention to the expansive harbor views. To balance the cool, modern aesthetic, gentle curves and soft textures are incorporated, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels both refined and inviting. The result is a holiday home that not only celebrates its unique location but also sets a new standard for interior innovation and comfort.
