CY Interior Design's "Exquisite Gentleman" project, a 128-sqm apartment in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, designed by Tzu Lung Liao, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for its masterful blend of classical and contemporary elements, creating a refined living space that honors both tradition and modernity.

"Exquisite Gentleman" is a residential interior project that thoughtfully weaves together elegant lines, classical motifs, and contemporary materials to create a sophisticated yet inviting home. Designed by Tzu Lung Liao of CY Interior Design, the apartment serves as both a reception space and a future residence for the owner's son. The design draws inspiration from the refined sensibilities of a gentleman, using a palette of black, gray, and white as its foundation, and layering intricate details to evoke a sense of warmth and exclusivity.
The project stands out for its innovative approach to blending baroque influences-favored by the father-with modern aesthetics suitable for the next generation. Classical lines are interpreted through the use of diverse materials such as mirror, glass, and iron, infusing the space with a youthful, contemporary energy. The entryway features striking black and white mosaic tiles, while the living area is adorned with classical wire panels, wood grain, and luxury stone, including a TV wall whose unique leopard-patterned texture became a focal point. Custom display cabinets accommodate the owners' collections, and indirect lighting subtly frames the open-plan living and dining zones, visually expanding the space and enhancing its functionality.
One of the project's main challenges was integrating a large structural beam in the living room without disrupting the spatial harmony. The design team skillfully addressed this by collaging wood grain and mirror materials, echoing the façade's connections and extending the visual flow into the dining area. In the private quarters, totemic wallpaper softens the atmosphere, while ample storage and dedicated areas for tea and wine reflect the family's lifestyle. The result is a balanced, multi-functional environment that seamlessly connects daily living with entertaining, and honors both the present and future needs of its residents.
