Essencare Clinic: Merging Industrial Memory and Nature in a Post-Human Era

UNDER ROOF's Essencare clinic redefines the aesthetic medical experience by transforming a 140-square-meter space in Taoyuan into a visionary environment inspired by the city's industrial past and the concept of the post-human era. Drawing from the collective memory of Taoyuan's historic flour factories, the design incorporates large columns reminiscent of industrial ruins and a central patio that bathes the interior in natural light, fostering a vertical forest that changes with the seasons. This approach not only honors the city's heritage but also establishes a narrative bridge between humanity, nature, and the future.

At the entrance, visitors encounter a Water Ripple Device featuring a metallic plate that refracts light and shadow, evoking an ethereal underwater ambiance. Inside, mechanical water ripple light tubes simulate cascading waterfalls, immersing guests in a transcendent, hyper-realistic setting. The spatial layout juxtaposes two forms of industrial remains: large columns that offer privacy and sanctuary, and smaller columns enlivened by wild flora, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of human innovation and nature. This dynamic interplay invites exploration and personal reflection, making each visit a unique journey.

The design process overcame significant challenges, including the need to create an organic, migratory experience within a limited footprint while subtly referencing industrial forms without overwhelming the space. Each area presents a distinct landscape, encouraging free movement and discovery of hidden corners that resonate with visitors' moods. By integrating advanced lighting technology and thoughtful spatial planning, Essencare sets a new standard for immersive medical environments, resonating with both urban memory and futuristic aspirations. The project's recognition with the Bronze A' Design Award highlights its creative ingenuity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
