In the heart of Warsaw’s revitalized Norblin Factory, Amar Beirut by MK Design stands as a stunning example of how cultural heritage and modern innovation can coexist in perfect harmony. Once an industrial production site, the 550-square-meter venue has been transformed into an immersive Lebanese dining experience — a space where the raw textures of history meet the warmth, rhythm, and hospitality of Beirut.Led by Marina Khalil, MK Design’s Founder and Creative Director, the project redefines the concept of adaptive reuse in hospitality design. Rather than concealing the past, the team chose to celebrate it, preserving the original steel beams, brick walls, and architectural skeleton of the factory while infusing the interiors with a contemporary Middle Eastern aesthetic. The result is a poetic dialogue between two cities: Warsaw and Beirut — where industrial rigor meets cultural emotion.A key highlight of the design is the pixel light ceiling installation, a modern interpretation of traditional Lebanese geometric patterns. Reimagined through LED technology, this element becomes both functional and symbolic, reflecting MK Design’s ability to blend craftsmanship with innovation. The suspended cutlery installation pays homage to the site’s original use as a 19th-century silverware factory, transforming everyday objects into an artful narrative of continuity between past and present. The space is carefully choreographed to guide guests through layers of cultural storytelling. Each material and texture — from raw concrete and natural brass to ceramic tiles with subtle Arabic motifs — has been thoughtfully selected to evoke authenticity while maintaining balance with the industrial architecture. The furniture, all custom-designed by MK Design, merges comfort and sculptural beauty, reinforcing the studio’s philosophy that function and art should exist seamlessly together.Acoustics and lighting were treated as integral parts of the design language. The integration of live music areas within a post-industrial setting demanded precision and sensitivity. MK Design achieved this by incorporating hidden acoustic treatments, layered fabrics, and controlled lighting schemes that transition from warm intimacy to vibrant energy — capturing the spirit of Beirut’s social rhythm while maintaining Warsaw’s structural integrity. The rooftop terrace continues the narrative, offering a lighter, open-air extension of the restaurant that overlooks the city skyline. Here, the design becomes more fluid and contemporary, yet retains the same DNA — handcrafted details, warm materials, and cultural motifs that tie the experience together.Founded in Dubai, MK Design is a multidisciplinary studio specializing in architecture, interior design, and brand experience across hospitality, retail, and cultural projects. Known for its holistic approach, MK Design combines artistic vision with technical precision, delivering projects that merge storytelling with functionality. From concept to execution, the studio emphasizes collaboration, emotional connection, and contextual design — crafting environments that are not only visually striking but also deeply meaningful. The success of Amar Beirut has reinforced MK Design’s reputation as a forward-thinking international studio capable of transforming spaces into living narratives. The project has been recognized with the Gold A’ Design Award, a testament to the firm’s dedication to design excellence, cultural sensitivity, and innovation in adaptive reuse.Through Amar Beirut, MK Design demonstrates how design can transcend geography, connecting people through shared emotion, history, and beauty — proving that architecture and culture, when intertwined with purpose, can create experiences that resonate far beyond walls.
