Cheng Xiao's Innovative Design Revolutionizes Public Toilets in Shenzhen

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Shenzhen Lianhua Peak Restroom Project

Cheng Xiao's groundbreaking project, the Shenzhen Lianhua Peak Restroom, is a demonstration of China's Public Toilet Revolution. Situated next to Xiaoping Square on the hilltop of Lianhua mountain in Shenzhen, this project aims to redefine public perceptions of traditional toilets and integrate architecture with nature, providing a solution to the restroom needs of millions of tourists while offering public activities and rest space.

The primary principle of the project is to achieve harmony between architecture and nature. The rest corridor connects the men’s and women’s toilets, forming a visual corridor between the square and the mountain forest. The main walls are fully open, allowing the scenery and natural wind to flow into the room. Additionally, art perforated plates are used to create a visual barrier, enhancing privacy and infusing the square with a cultural atmosphere.

The project, realized using concrete, steel, stone, velux skylight, perforated aluminum plate, U-shaped glass, and metal mesh curtain, spans a gross built area of 950 square meters. It was completed in May 2019 and is located in Shenzhen Futian District, Lian Hua Hill Top.

The Shenzhen Lianhua Peak Restroom project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2021 for its outstanding innovation, technical characteristics, and artistic excellence. Cheng Xiao's design has set a new standard for public space architecture, providing a refreshing and harmonious restroom experience for visitors to Lianhua mountain.
