Jack Chen redefines small living with the renovation of a 33m2 1 bedroom apartment into a multifunctional living and office space in Richmond, Victoria, Australia.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jack Chen's "Small Living" project is a groundbreaking renovation and interior design endeavor that transforms a compact 33m2 apartment into a multifunctional living and office space. Inspired by the Tiny house movement, the design aims to fit a whole house into a small apartment, offering a Swiss army knife of living where everything one needs can be found in the small floor area.
The apartment features an abstract timber box that extends the entire length of the space, housing various functions including the kitchen, bathroom, laundry, entry foyer, mini cellar, dining space, and even a timber bedhead. The design also incorporates flexible furniture and innovative solutions to maximize functionality while minimizing visual clutter.
The project, located in Richmond, Victoria, Australia, took approximately 4 months to complete, starting from July 2016. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness.
The "Small Living" project showcases the fusion of Japanese design and minimal living philosophy, aiming to create a warm and comfortable living environment while embracing the concept of living simply with less. Jack Chen's design challenges the notion that minimal design needs to be bare and devoid of modern living accessories, offering a rich and warm minimal living environment.
