Piotr Pyrtek's Hangar Renovation Transforms Historic Aircraft Hangar into a Unique Museum Experience
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Piotr Pyrtek's visionary transformation of a historic aircraft hangar into a museum of engineering and technology has been unveiled, offering a unique space for the exhibition of automotive objects and the hosting of events and spectacles. The interior has been meticulously preserved to reflect the era, while incorporating contemporary elements that seamlessly blend with the hangar's original character.
The mezzanine, designed as a striking bridge structure with an expressive lattice, stands 3m above the ground, deliberately erected at a distance from the building's exterior walls to preserve the hangar's authenticity. The project involved extensive research, utilizing period materials such as steel, brick, concrete, and wood, to maintain the historical integrity of the space.
The renovation, which began in December 2017 and concluded in mid-2022, presented unique challenges in harmonizing historical and contemporary elements. The project received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its innovative and practical approach that meets professional and industrial requirements.
Based in Kraków, Poland, EKOTEKTURA Piotr Pyrtek is an architectural studio known for its diverse portfolio encompassing residential, commercial, and industrial architecture, as well as interior and industrial design. The studio's work reflects a design philosophy rooted in understanding the broader context and respecting the environment and surrounding space.
