SatitCMU Kidspace is a renovation project for Chiang Mai University Demonstration School, designed to provide a modern and imaginative learning environment for kindergarten and primary level students. The project, led by Pandin Ounchanum, was completed in June 2020 at Chiang Mai, Thailand.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pandin Ounchanum, along with the design team, has transformed the existing building into a modern classroom space that fosters phenomenal based learning. The renovation focuses on maintaining the existing hexagonal form while creating a new, imaginative space for kids. The first floor is dedicated to kindergarten, designed to resemble a forest, while the second floor caters to primary level students with a sky-themed environment. The project also includes an elephant playground, symbolizing Chiang Mai University, and unique trapezoid-shaped tables for group learning.
One of the standout features of SatitCMU Kidspace is the use of curved furniture and wooden materials to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The play space area is equipped with soft cushions to ensure the safety of the children. The furniture and play area are designed to correspond with phenomenal based learning and the scale of the kids.
The project faced challenges in preserving the hexagonal characteristics and architectural elements of the original building, dating back to 1968. Despite these challenges, the team successfully integrated the hexagonal plan and built-in furniture, creating a conducive environment for learning and play. The renovation also included the addition of a new restroom without compromising the building's unique hexagonal character.
