Luminous Minimal Apartment Refurbishment

Ivana Lukovic's award-winning project, Luminous Minimal, is a stunning 150m2 apartment refurbishment located in an Athenian southern suburb. The design aimed to enhance and reveal the main potential of the existing space - natural light. By increasing the size of window openings and using simple, natural materials in a calm color palette, the design allows natural light effects to alter the habitat throughout the day.

The apartment occupies the third floor and roof of a building, and the limited budget refurbishment transformed the existing reality into a bespoke, oneiric domestic realm. The project started in May 2021 and was completed in November 2021 in Athens, Greece.

Environmental benefit was achieved by improving the existing space rather than moving to a new one. Built-in equipment in larch wood and lacquered MDF was designed particularly for this space and produced in collaboration with a local carpenter, contributing to the local economy. The design also includes custom-made cement mortar, terrazzo, and pebbled cement in a basic color palette, maintaining the borders of already defined spaces.
