WAT Green Urban Jungle: Redefining Urban Spaces for the Young Generation

Chen Lin's WAT Green Urban Jungle is a revolutionary social retail and cocktail bar project located at 758 Julu Road, Jing'an District, Shanghai, China. The project, which commenced in January 2021 and concluded in July 2021, redefines urban spaces for the young generation, blending retail and bar elements seamlessly.

The rectangular space is entirely clad in green terrazzo tiles, creating a vibrant and unique atmosphere. An elongated counter with a rotating belt laden with cocktail drinks takes center stage, accompanied by a suspended electronic message board canopy following its contours. Large street-side windows flood the space with daylight, providing a seating area with a counter and seven stools.

The project's unique design challenges were overcome by using terrazzo, a heavy material typically used on the ground, on both the ceiling and the wall. Through meticulous testing, the team successfully cut terrazzo into three sheets of the same thickness and attached them to the entire space, showcasing their dedication to innovation and creativity.

Chen Lin's vision for WAT Green Urban Jungle was inspired by the spirit of urbanism, aiming to elegantly intervene in the space-time fabric of the city with a design that reflects the spirit of the times. The project's success is a testament to the team's commitment to pushing boundaries and creating exceptional, forward-thinking designs.
