Shamim Polymer Factory by Davood Boroojeni

Shamim Polymer Factory is a pioneering industrial architecture project that aims to enhance the quality of life for factory workers. The design incorporates factors such as spatial quality, local architecture, climate, and the exposed usage of materials to create a unique and innovative space. The factory features a middle courtyard that connects different areas, providing open air, light, shadow, green space, and color to enhance the overall environment.

The project is based on specific patterns for organizing building plans from the past, particularly the middle courtyard and cruciform axes, which are important patterns in Iranian architecture. By revitalizing these traditional architectural methods in an industrial context, the project seeks to create a harmonious and functional space for production, office, and research activities.

One of the key aspects of the design is the use of exposed materials, including steel structures, concrete floors, prefabricated concrete blocks for walls, glass, and in-site concrete for stairs. This approach not only creates an industrial feel but also minimizes environmental impact by reducing the use of additional materials.

The project faced several challenges, including the proper separation of different workspaces and the risk of the middle courtyard being abandoned. However, through innovative design solutions, such as utilizing circulation elements to divide unrelated programs and enhancing the spatial quality of the middle courtyard, these challenges were effectively addressed.

Davood Boroojeni, the principal architect of the project, has over 15 years of professional experience and has been involved in various stages of architectural projects. His expertise, combined with a deep understanding of Iranian architectural traditions, has contributed to the success of the Shamim Polymer Factory.
