Villa K: A Contemporary Villa with Holistic Qualities

Ruud van der Koelen, in collaboration with architect Paul van der Jeugd, has unveiled Villa K, a contemporary villa located on the sloping south flank of the Holterberg in Holten, The Netherlands. The project, which commenced in 2016 and was completed in 2020, is a remarkable example of high-tech sustainability and architectural excellence.

The villa, with a building volume of 6,500 m3 and a gross floor area of 1,850 m2, boasts a rare coherence that gives it holistic qualities, creating a space where residents can enjoy daily life. The carefully designed integration into the beautiful landscape, along with sophisticated detailing, has resulted in a materialization that matches the stature of the villa, approaching that of a 'Gezamtkunstwerk'.

What sets Villa K apart is its self-sufficiency and minimal maintenance requirements, making it a true sustainable beauty. The design features a glass mosaic facade, a self-sufficient smart home, and refined detailing and materialization, including sliding doors with a frame sashed of 5 meters (triple glassed).

Van der Jeugd Architecten's design has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. This award acknowledges Villa K as a top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable design that illustrates outstanding expertise and innovation, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
