Anand Deshmukh transforms a residential unit into an architectural studio, creating a fluid space that merges with the natural beauty of the neighboring hill in Pune, Maharashtra.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anand Deshmukh's Studio by the Hill is a unique architectural office that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings, featuring a carefully selected material palette and innovative design elements. The studio, completed in August 2010, is an experiment with novel materials and color palettes in response to the specific site and climatic conditions, creating a peaceful working environment. The design is an exploration of ash wood furniture, in-situ concrete flooring, natural brick paving, and pastel green lime plaster finish, all carefully chosen to complement the neighboring hill's natural beauty.
The 120 sq. m open floor plan features minimal clear glass partitions, allowing natural light to flood the space and preventing excessive glare and heat during working hours. The entrance zone is marked by natural brick paving, seamlessly connecting the interior with the outdoor terrace. Perforated brick sliding panels control the entry of southern sun rays, while the use of lime plastered walls and southern natural brick jail adds to the thermal comfort. The studio's fluidity is further enhanced by modest curved components, creating a welcoming and comforting environment.
Studio by the Hill was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2023 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
