Nanxiang Bailian: Modern Cantonese Restaurant Design

Above Space's Nanxiang Bailian restaurant design has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2021. The restaurant, located in Fuzhou, China, is a modern interpretation of traditional Cantonese architecture, blending historical elements with contemporary style.

The 690-square-meter project was completed in November 2020 and is a testament to the designer's commitment to functional and artistic expression. The use of terrazzo, a modern building material, reflects the traditional stones of Cantonese architecture, creating a visually stunning and comfortable dining space.

The design team, including Kaiwang Zhang, Wen Lin, and Guihua Lian, overcame various challenges to ensure the space's permeability and privacy, resulting in a high-end restaurant that meets the practical needs of its patrons. The restaurant's efficient operation is guaranteed by the thoughtful design basis, which includes the use of painted wooden screens to enrich the color scheme and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The restaurant's interior lighting, utilizing multiple groups of point light sources, not only enhances the space's texture but also ensures the needs of each table are met. The design's attention to detail, from the color scheme to the layout of seating areas, demonstrates a meticulous approach to creating a harmonious and efficient dining environment.
