Yuimu, a Japanese-style hybrid restaurant featuring Omakase, introduces a contemporary Japanese aesthetic with a unique "no wood" interior design, meeting international green standards.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yuimu, a Japanese-style hybrid restaurant featuring Omakase, has unveiled its innovative woodless interior design, setting it apart from traditional Japanese restaurants. The entire restaurant, located in a green building in Malaysia, has been designed and decorated without the use of wood, meeting international green standards. The double-storey loft structure is divided into a yakitori section, a sake bar, a private dining area, and an Omakase session, offering a modern fusion Japanese concept.
The interior design is inspired by the rich meanings and aesthetics of Chinese characters, embodying the seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The lighting, reflecting the four seasons, creates a range of experiences from soft to strong, enhancing the overall ambiance. The project, led by art director Watson Koay and head of project Elroy Moo, took three months to complete, with a significant portion of the decoration made of cement.
The design phase presented challenges in sourcing alternative materials that met the criteria of being non-wooden, zero formaldehyde, and environmentally friendly. Despite these challenges, the entire project was completed within a tight 90-day deadline, from September to December 2022 in Kuala Lumpur. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, recognizing its outstanding expertise and innovation.
