Zhubo Design unveils the innovative "Folding Garden" in Beijing, a community center that reimagines traditional royal construction in a compact space, blending natural tension and pure geometric forms.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Zhubo Design introduces "Folding Garden," a groundbreaking community center located in Beijing, China. The project, led by Design Director Yang Weizhong and Design Creator Xia Chong, reinterprets traditional royal construction within a relatively compact space. The design aims to create a place filled with natural tension using pure geometric forms, showcasing a unique approach to garden construction.
The "Folding Garden" stands out with its innovative use of a continuous wall that cuts across the site, shaping the garden and serving as the supporting structure, resulting in a coherent indoor column-free space. The linear and zigzag wall creates a seamless connection between three scattered courtyard spaces, earning the project its name. The design is covered by fluctuating flowing bricks, resembling a mountain in the forest, and sculpting a beautiful full-viewed space scenery into a free geometry mountain.
With a total land area of 6421 square meters and a construction area of 1403 square meters, the "Folding Garden" boasts a floor area ratio of 0.22, a building height of 5.5 meters, and comprises one floor above ground and one floor underground. The project, which commenced in 2017 and concluded in 2018, has garnered acclaim, receiving the Silver A' Design Award in 2022 for its exceptional creativity and technical excellence.
