Qisi Design Chen Sissi and Fu Chong Introduce a Revolutionary Family Public Space Design in Shanghai
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Qisi Design Chen Sissi and Fu Chong have unveiled their latest project, "Turbine," a revolutionary family public space design in Shanghai. Inspired by the running turbine, the design features a cylindrical bookshelf that wraps around the structural wall, creating an innovative living space. The unique design aims to break the conventional living room layout mode and stimulate the vitality of family public space, offering a new possibility for family living space.
In this residential interior design, the "bookshelf device" serves as the center of a kind of family public space structure, with other functional spaces arranged around it. The design not only solves the negative influence of the T-shaped structure wall in the middle of the space but also provides a coherent spatial experience. The family public space is a large area composed of three original rooms, featuring various functional areas such as a balcony, platform, study, viewing area, sports area, family gallery, and bar, all connected together to form a cohesive spatial experience.
The cylindrical wooden device wrapping the T-shaped structure wall is made by carpenters on-site. Additionally, the large-size wooden door and metal frame glass door can move flexibly through the H-shaped heavy pulley track fixed on the beam. The wires are hidden on the side of the pulley track, and customized metal rods and professional hooks allow residents to change paintings or adjust the hanging position of paintings flexibly.
Qisi Design Chen Sissi and Fu Chong conducted qualitative research to explore the needs of urban youth families for family public space. The research revealed that freedom, flexibility, possibility, home office, home sports, and a sense of art are the key elements of young family living. The design project, which started in February 2020 and finished in March 2020, has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness.
