Laodian Shanzhai: Redefining Yunnan Dining Experience

Steven Hu's Laodian Shanzhai introduces a groundbreaking approach to Yunnan minority restaurant design, fusing national style and original ecology with contemporary fashion elements. The restaurant's ambiance is crafted using traditional Chinese lanterns, dyed yarn, ethnic fabrics, and Yuanyang terraces, immersing diners in the rich ethnic customs from the moment they step in. Laodian Shanzhai covers 1700 square meters and aims to elevate the service and dining experience to a global standard.

The project, which commenced in October 2018 and concluded in February 2019, is a testament to Hu's dedication to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Yunnan. The design team, including Zhoumei Li, Mei Dong, Zhenli Shi, Abu Nibu, Xiaojuan Bao, and Jing Shi, meticulously integrated elements like fire pits, Lijiang windmills, and ancient town wells to reflect the vibrant national culture of Yunnan.

Laodian Shanzhai's design not only presents a visual feast but also aims to engage all senses, offering a holistic dining experience that integrates taste, smell, sight, hearing, touch, and emotion. This innovative approach sets the restaurant apart, making it a true embodiment of art and life. The design has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2020, underscoring its practicality, innovation, and adherence to industry best practices.
