Yuting Zhang, the acclaimed Founding Principal and Design Director of Studio RE+N (Studio of Re-Evolve Narrative), has once again proven her architectural prowess with the Iceland Volcano Museum, a project that has earned the prestigious Silver Award from the A’ Design Award. A graduate with a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and holding additional degrees from Tsinghua University, Zhang has made significant contributions to the architectural field. Her career spans critical roles in renowned firms such as Gensler and Utile, Inc., where she led major projects like Area 15 Orlando and 1170-1200 Hancock St, 154 Broadway, an Architizer finalist in the U.S. As a Registered Architect in California and a LEED Accredited Professional, Zhang’s commitment to sustainable design is evident in her works. Her membership in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) underscores her influence and respect in the industry. Zhang has also lent her expertise as a juror for the AIA’s National Awards and as a peer reviewer for their 2024 conference. Internationally, Zhang's designs have been recognized with awards and honorable mentions, including the A’ Design Award’s Bronze for "Kaffihús Hringur (Coffee Shop)" and "Device of Perception," and Honorable Mentions in various international competitions. Her engagement with the academic world as a lecturer and critic further enhances her influence in the field. The Iceland Volcano Museum, Zhang’s recent masterpiece, transcends traditional museum architecture. Located in Iceland's Myvatn region, the museum reflects the area's volcanic craters, hot springs, and lakes through its circular design. This design choice is not just an aesthetic triumph but a functional one, fostering a symbiotic relationship between the structure and its environment.
