YUNG-EN LIN's Self Portrait project, a Bronze A' Design Award winner, reimagines a 30-year-old office space into a harmonious and functional modern office in Taichung City, Taiwan, finished in March 2020.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YUNG-EN LIN's Self Portrait project transforms a 30-year-old mixed-use building in Taichung City, Taiwan, into a modern and functional office space. The redesign focuses on creating a larger, more functional space by re-planning the layout, utilizing cabinets and an island table. The pure color arrangement and arc design vocabulary contribute to an open and bright spatial characteristic, enhancing the overall ambiance.
The innovative approach of considering the space as a continuous and single object results in a unique design that not only enlarges the feeling of the space but also centralizes the primary functions. The kitchen, designed as a Solid Cube, serves as a focal point, meeting the daily needs of the users while distinguishing different attributes within the space.
The space features a monochromatic color scheme of gray and white, minimizing interference with the users' daily lives. The design team's focus on highlighting the clients' lives rather than complex decorations reflects in the choice of colors and materials, with the wooden plywood wall of the kitchen adding a touch of warmth to the space.
In addition to the unique design elements, the project also addresses the need for accommodating and flexible working areas, incorporating a continuous curvy book wall for storing books and a wall and cabinet for displaying. The "One Room" design concept not only satisfies the need for segmenting the space based on different requirements but also allows for continuity of space usage through a glass sliding door.
The project, finished in March 2020, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
