Lakeside Lodge: A Modern Zen Residential Design

Zhe-Wei Liao's Lakeside Lodge is a modern Zen residential design project that reimagines a private villa as an extended image of the natural atmosphere of mountains, forests, sky, and water. Completed in September 2020 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, this project seamlessly blends eco-friendly concepts with upcycled materials, creating a narrative space that reflects the client's nostalgia for the lakeside scene.

To accommodate both residential and entertaining needs, the design incorporates an open kitchen with a teppanyaki area adjacent to the living room, blurring the division between living and dining areas. The space employs a geometric combination of furniture to enhance visual movement and functionality, allowing for flexible interaction in the open space.

The design's unique properties include the use of materials that mimic nature, such as a grass-like carpet and wood cabinets resembling trees. The emerald marble flooring and mirrored metals in the corridors create a reflective space, enlarging and extending the visual experience. The design's realization technology focuses on creating a spacious, clean layout with a smooth flow, considering the configuration and future maintenance of the teppanyaki equipment and other features.

Zhe-Wei Liao's Lakeside Lodge received the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
