Aaron Leppanen's nature-inspired office design for Terrafertil, completed in May 2019 in Quito-Ecuador, brings the outside in, prioritizing the flow and feeling of its users, and promoting a close relationship between the company's motto and the design concept.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aaron Leppanen's design for Terrafertil's headquarters embodies the company's motto of natural and healthy products from origin. The 350 square meter office features a mix of open and closed spaces, with a system of 663 custom CNC wood panels creating a unique, organic environment. The design, completed in May 2019, simulates a walk through the country, bringing the outside in and promoting wellness through nature-inspired elements.
The office design prioritizes the flow and feeling of its users, creating a space that transforms from collaborative to closed working spaces, maintaining a dynamic equilibrium. The wooden boxes gather people together, imposing and dividing the space, creating privacy and hierarchy. The interior design is inspired by the brand's logo, products, and colors, with custom textiles, wallpaper, and furniture bringing light, color, and form resembling a prairie.
The project, led by Aaron Leppanen and his team, faced challenges in finding suitable technology to fabricate the parametric triangular steel frame structure and wood panels, as CNC and 3D printing machines were at an early stage in Ecuador. However, the result is a unique office space that embodies the brand's ethos and promotes a healthy, nature-inspired work environment.
