Award-Winning Architect Toshiaki Tanaka Unveils the Exquisite House in Morimachi
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toshiaki Tanaka's House in Morimachi is a stunning example of architectural innovation, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese elements with modern design. The single-storied house, clad in metal sheets, respects the surrounding scenery and reflects the changes of nature through its intimate connection with the exterior space.
The house features a steel framing structure, employing the module of traditional Japanese wooden houses to maintain a familiar sense of scale for the residents. The wood sliding doors enhance the interior's depth and continuity, while the garden offers unique views from each room facing the south facade.
Completed in September 2015 in Oita City, Japan, the project was a meticulous process that involved working closely with skilled craftsmen and utilizing traditional techniques to achieve a space with a comfortable sense of tension.
One of the most significant challenges of the project was creating a seamless transition between the internal and external spaces. The use of a steel structure based on the grid module of the Japanese timber framing system allowed for a wide-spanning space, while the 'engawa' terrace and low eaves invited natural light into the interior, paying homage to traditional Japanese techniques.
Recognizing the exceptional design and architectural prowess, the House in Morimachi was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, showcasing its outstanding expertise and innovation in the field of architecture, building, and structure design.
Toshiaki Tanaka's House in Morimachi stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernity, offering a unique and captivating living space that celebrates the beauty of Japanese architecture.
