The Strait Culture and Art Center: A Cultural Complex Inspired by Chinese Traditional Culture
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Strait Culture and Art Center, designed by Zong Wu Xu, is an innovative expression of Chinese traditional culture. Inspired by the jasmine, a symbol of Chinese culture and the city flower of Fuzhou, the center's design features five main buildings resembling white jasmine petals, with the Liangcuo River running through them like a flower stalk. The complex includes a multifunctional theatre, opera house, concert hall, art museum, film and television center, and central cultural hall, covering a gross floor area of 153,000 square meters.
Constructed with Chinese traditional materials of ceramics and bamboo, the center pays homage to China's heritage. The use of ceramics and bamboo, both deeply rooted in Chinese culture, not only adds cultural significance but also reduces production and transportation costs due to their local availability in Fujian Province.
The project, located in Fu Zhou, China, was completed in August 2018 and has garnered international acclaim, winning the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in 2021. The center's innovative design and seamless integration with the surrounding landscape make it a landmark in the region, offering a space for immersive urban cultural experiences.
