gad unveils Zhejiang Jiande Aviation, a training base that integrates natural properties and memories of the site, fostering an organic symbiosis between building and environment, human and nature. Completed in June 2020, the project is a Silver A' Design Award winner.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Zhejiang Jiande Aviation, designed by gad, is a training-oriented park located in the Aviation Town of Jiande. The project spans 36124.23 square meters, with the ground floor covering 32798.83 square meters and the underground floor totaling 3325.4 square meters.
The design features three groups of buildings enclosing courtyards of different sizes, connected by a raised green mound. Overhead corridors at the ground floor run through the park, connecting various functional areas. The upper part of the building boasts a clear main interface, while the ground floor interacts with the external environment, creating a diverse spatial experience.
The campus is endowed with natural properties through the organic integration of the building and the natural landform, fostering an organic symbiosis between building and environment, human and nature. The use of aluminum sheets, elastic coatings, and terrazzo for the building materials, along with the incorporation of permeable concrete for outdoor landscape roads, reflects a commitment to sustainability and natural integration.
As the core activity space, the teaching building connects the hotel (also serving as a temporary dormitory for training students) and the office meeting room. Public spaces such as the lobby, cafe, lecture hall, exhibition hall, restaurant, and gym are linked in series, offering a seamless experience for visitors.
The design of overhead corridors effectively addresses the local climate, providing continuous shade and protection from the elements. The varied terrain allows for the incorporation of a rainwater garden system, enhancing the site's sustainability and ecological impact.
The project, which began in 2018, is a testament to the design team's dedication to retaining the natural conditions of the site, creating a campus with a strong sense of place and rich spatial experience.
