Discover the innovative Xinghui dining room design by Baodong Wang, a fusion of Chinese garden elements and Japanese cuisine, exhibited in Shanghai in May 2020.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baodong Wang's Xinghui dining room design draws inspiration from Chinese landscape painting, creating a space that embodies the spirit of ancient literati paintings. The design aims to evoke a sense of "the appearance of mountains, entering mountains, looking inside mountains, looking back from the mountaintops and looking out over mountains," offering a unique experience of body perception and spiritual sublimation.
The layout of the Xinghui dining room is a departure from traditional Japanese cuisine, incorporating Japanese elements into a Chinese garden setting. Each compartment offers a different landscape experience, changing with the seasons. The design fosters a sense of community, with each compartment resembling a separate house, enhancing communication between guests.
The Xinghui dining room is realized using ancient brick, glass, art paint, and wood, covering an area of 1000 square meters. The design team, including Baodong Wang, Feng Jian, mishuxiang, qinqiang, and zhanglin, worked to create a seamless and immersive experience for visitors.
Visitors to the Xinghui dining room are greeted by a unique sequence of experiences, from the circular door at the parking lot to the small cave entrance and the stone steps leading to the long bar. The design encourages a journey through the space, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Located in Jinan Cultural West Road, Shandong Province, China, the Xinghui dining room opened in December 2019 and was showcased in Shanghai in May 2020. The design reflects extensive research into creating a space that seamlessly integrates landscapes into each room, embodying the features of a Chinese garden.
Baodong Wang's Xinghui dining room design faced challenges in combining Japanese and Chinese elements, as well as constructing giant sculptures. However, these challenges were overcome to create a truly unique and immersive dining experience.
