Reviving Shenyang's Industrial Heritage with a Modern Twist

The "Rebirth of The Rust Belt" project, led by architect Xuhui Guo, has brought a new landmark to Shenyang, China. Inspired by the city's industrial heritage, the conference center building stands as a testament to urban renewal while preserving the local industrial context. The innovative design integrates traditional elements with modern functionality, providing a unique space for exhibitions and conferences.

The conference center's unique features include a departure from the traditional large volume and axisymmetric layout, opting instead for soft curved shapes and building materials that pay homage to the local tradition. Notably, the building is a green structure, boasting a 72% reduction in comprehensive energy consumption compared to regular buildings, thanks to advanced green building technologies.

Constructed using a combination of reinforced concrete and steel grid frames, the building's facade features weathering steel plates, aluminum plate curtain walls, and granite curtain walls. The project also incorporates high-performance thermal insulation, energy-saving equipment, photovoltaic power generation, permeable pavement, sunken grassland, and a water recycling system, showcasing a commitment to sustainable design.
