Sean Chang's "Realm of Serenity" is a modern minimalist residence completed in January 2019 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, designed to provide comfort and solitude with a powerful connection to the exterior.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sean Chang's "Realm of Serenity" is a 240 square meter modern minimalist residence, designed to be an alcove of comfort and solitude. The interior is treated with masonry materials and warm timber, reflecting a space of modern design with reverence to culture. The design deliberately simplifies indoor elements, materials, and linework to provide a more powerful connection between the interior and the exterior, taking advantage of the city and harbor views of Kaohsiung City.
The interior features Neolith Slate, Smoked Oak, Hair-Line Finished Stainless Steel Plate, North-American Oak, and Hand-Dyed Tashiro Indian Hawthorn Veneer. The design includes a living room, dining area, kitchen, rumpus room, tatami room, storage room, master bedroom, guest bedroom, and three bathrooms. The layout was changed from a 4-room to a 2-room format, requiring reconfiguration of plumbing and wiring to accommodate the client's request.
The design won the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach. Sean Chang's design philosophy aims to cut down unnecessary elements, leaving only the essence of every design while maintaining its charm. His projects stay simple, neat, and clear, yet exude energy and liveliness, reflecting his commitment to creating fulfilling and positive spaces.
