FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Shih Cheng Lo and Min Han Yang have created a stunning split-level residence design named "In-between Lines". The design, which started construction on February 25th, 2019, and completed on August 25th, 2019, in New Taipei City, Taiwan, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020. The design team adopted a natural earth color tone to create a comfortable space for a travel enthusiast couple, with ample storage in a 39 square meter interior.
Unique to this design is the overlapping Intersecting Spaces that serve connective and multi-purpose functions with framed volumes demarcating interior domains, such as the TV wall, mirrored cabinet, waterproof basin, and bookshelf wall for storing the client's collection. The design team utilized intersecting volumes to meet living requirements and optimize natural lighting, overcoming the challenge of integrating functional requirements in a limited interior area.
The interior is filled with white, green, and grey color tones, complemented with timber elements and greenery. The split-level floor-slab thickness was kept within 10cm to create a non-oppressive living environment, optimizing living functions and floor usage while maintaining a sense of spatial layers within the confined yet exquisite space.
