FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Huang Kai Ling's Light Field project is a testament to the transformative power of design, as it breathes new life into a 60-year-old residence in Lingya District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The project, completed in June 2020, focuses on retaining the original structure and living pattern of the building while restoring the essence and status of the space through simple construction methods and designs. By adopting penetrating media, the design team brings an abundance of sunlight and natural wind into the space, creating a breathing house from the interior to the exterior.
The project's unique properties lie in its meticulous attention to detail and the harmonious integration of contemporary and traditional elements. The stairs, lined with black backing and unique lighting, serve as an important medium, connecting the relationship between various fields and allowing space to harmonize with each other. The use of step-by-step narrative techniques presents different scenes with tortuous paths and changes in light and shadow, adding depth and intrigue to the space.
Light Field's realization technology involves the use of materials such as post-made clear water mold, hexagonal tile, glass, wood grain brick, and close lightly pebble, combining contemporary and traditional elements to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The building's floor area spans 115.703 square meters, featuring a two-story layout with a mezzanine. The facade is stacked with layers of concrete, close lightly pebble, and protective paint to achieve temperature resistance, dirt resistance, and aesthetic appeal.
The project's eco-friendly and nature-inspired design is further emphasized by its use of keywords such as renovation, nature, eco-friendly, townhouse, and minimalism. The design team, led by Huang Kai Ling and Wei-Chen Chao, has successfully created a space that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings while providing a serene and stress-relief environment rich in aesthetics.
Light Field's success lies in its ability to overcome the challenges of transforming a 60-year-old residence into a modern, yet soulful living space. By accurately grasping the proportion and balance between the old and the new, the design team has preserved the texture and temperature of the old residence, injecting the soul and charm of the old building into the new space. The result is a spacious living area that celebrates the poetic and spiritual beauty of the original structure.
Recognizing the project's excellence, Light Field was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2021, affirming its status as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements. Huang Kai Ling's Light Field project stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design in transforming spaces and enriching lives.
