FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Kiyotoshi Mori's Yatsugatake Villa is a breathtaking summer retreat, designed to maximize its location on a plateau surrounded by fields and trees with panoramic views of distant mountain ranges. The fan-shaped exterior, with three modern trapezoid tubes, frames the landscape in four directions, offering a unique and immersive experience.
The design incorporates traditional Japanese wooden construction methods, earthquake-resistant walls, and large openings, while utilizing contemporary strategies to optimize natural light, ventilation, and thermal comfort.
The project was awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
Contrary to the contemporary style guided by precipitation, sun rays, and the surrounding environment, the construction of the house incorporates traditional Japanese wooden construction methods, with earthquake-resistant walls and large openings. Traditional Japanese techniques and components are used throughout, including plastering on the curved openings and fittings such as shoji and ranma (partition with ventilation and daylighting functions), creating a vernacular architecture.
The Yatsugatake Villa boasts a site area of 691.00m2 and a total floor area of 110.01 m2, with a unique layout guided by the thermal environment, providing various interior scenes of varying depths as seen through the openings that connect the spaces.
Architect Kiyotoshi Mori's design philosophy focuses on creating architecture that stands the test of time, prioritizing comfortable spaces and attractive forms over unnecessary features. The Yatsugatake Villa exemplifies this ethos, offering a simple yet diverse structure that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings.
