Renowned designer Ao Zhang's Da Ya Li project, a visually striking roast duck restaurant in Chengdu, wins the Golden A' Design Award 2021 for Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ao Zhang's Da Ya Li project is a visually striking roast duck restaurant in Chengdu, China, featuring a red tree house as the core visual focus. The design draws inspiration from the solemn Chinese royal architecture and the peppery taste of Sichuan cuisine, evoking taste memory and recalling national culture. The tree house, a super symbol of the brand, represents people's pursuit of the heart of a child, weaving a beautiful vision in the infinite tenderness and evoking rustic and authentic memories for diners.
The tree house, made of rattan, is the highlight of the design, with 50,000 rattans uniformly polished, spray-painted, and attached one by one to the base of the keel. The space features cool smoky black antique brick walls and floor tiles to balance the warm red color, achieving a delicate harmony between color and material temperature. The design also integrates a metal grille to separate the space and meet commercial needs while connecting every dimension of the space with rich layers.
The project, which started in June 2019 and finished in September 2019, aimed to address the aging problem of the Da Ya Li brand and better integrate it into the local Sichuan culture as a Beijing cuisine. The design successfully overcame these challenges, creating a memory point for the brand and fostering a new understanding of Beijing cuisine among locals.
