Yoshiaki Sugi's Shogun Castle

Renowned designer Yoshiaki Sugi has unveiled the Shogun Castle, a stunning remodeling project that reimagines traditional Japanese interior design. Overlooking a city in transition, the apartment house has been transformed into a modern castle, featuring a unique Japanese special room for the landlord, inspired by the Shogun. The project, completed in Fukuoka, Japan, from May to September 2019, offers a fresh perspective on Japanese interior design.

To create an infinite depth and story in the Japanese style room, Sugi collaborated with four painters who worked on the reproduction of national treasure picture scrolls. The original drawings for the walls and ceiling were signed and sealed by the artists, bringing the space to life with a captivating narrative. Traditional materials such as hemp paper, natural mineral pigments, and gold leaf were used to achieve a unique Japanese subtlety, showcasing the beauty of Japanese craftsmanship.

The Shogun Castle features a 10 square meter Japanese special room for the landlord, offering a total floor area of 97.80 square meters. The project aimed to showcase and share the beauty of Japanese renovation to the world, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

Recognized for its exceptional design, the Shogun Castle was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious accolade celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
