Discover the innovative transformation of a former US military dormitory into a stunning yakiniku specialty restaurant in Taichung, Taiwan, designed by Joye Chuang.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Joye Chuang's "Beyond The Flow" project is a remarkable transformation of a 1960s US military dormitory into a captivating yakiniku specialty restaurant in Taichung, Taiwan. The design concept draws inspiration from cave-like, porous systems, featuring curved tunnel systems on the interior and geometrical squares on the exterior. The innovative use of arched pathways and geometric holes allows light and fragrance to flow through the space seamlessly, creating a borderless and elegant ambiance.
The interior walls are constructed using natural laterite containing diatomaceous earth, offering humidity tolerance, odor absorption, and maximum heat capacity. The establishment can accommodate up to 48 seats on the first floor, with a private workspace on the second floor. The project commenced in November 2020 and is set to be completed in January 2021.
The design team overcame various challenges, including implementing a high-quality ventilation system to manage smoke effectively. The use of hidden smoke ventilation systems and smart lighting placements has enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the restaurant while ensuring a comfortable dining experience for customers.
