Maolin National Scenic Area Unveils "Circle Origin Source" Public Art Project

TAIWAN (CHINA) -- /ARCHITECTURE/newswire -- Oct 17, 2021

Maolin National Scenic Area introduces "Circle Origin Source," a public art project inspired by the cultural commonalities among different tribes and the resilience of the Rinari tribe.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Circle Origin Source: A Symbol of Cultural Resilience

Maolin National Scenic Area proudly presents "Circle Origin Source," a public art project that embodies the cultural heritage and resilience of the Rinari tribe in Majia Township, Pingtung County. The project, completed in December 2019, serves as a testament to the tribe's strength and unity following the Morakot disaster in 2009.

The project, spanning 16 square meters, features intricate elements such as plaza floor art, parking lot railing beautification, and spatial beautification at the Tourist Service Center entrance. These elements, crafted from original stone, copper, stainless steel, and brick, encapsulate the tribe's spirit and sense of belonging.

Designed by Ethan Pavavalung, "Circle Origin Source" serves as a gathering place for the Rinari tribe, fostering communication, rituals, and dances that evoke a sense of origin and unity. The project's inspiration stems from the pain and sorrow experienced by the tribe during the Morakot disaster, culminating in a heartwarming display of public artwork that supports and uplifts the community.
