Banlan Hairdressing, a salon project designed by Wenhui Ruan, was completed in May 2019 in Fuzhou, China. The design is inspired by International Klein Blue (IKB), creating a sense of distance and independence, breaking traditional conventions of hairdressing salons.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Located in the bustling Taihe Plaza, Banlan Hairdressing stands out with its rough and pure concrete facade, incorporating the deep blue hue of International Klein Blue (IKB) to create a unique and artistic atmosphere. The salon's interior features a combination of tension and openness, with the IKB color scheme extending infinitely, evoking a sense of artistic vitality.
The salon's design utilizes black elements to enhance the vividness of IKB, creating a mysterious and technologically advanced ambiance. The unconventional use of materials such as metal, leather, and paint blends roughness with delicacy, strength with femininity, and freedom with loneliness, breaking traditional design boundaries.
The waiting area showcases randomly placed tables and chairs, adding an element of fun and dynamism to the space. Additionally, the incorporation of modern themes on screens contributes to a contemporary and technological atmosphere, redefining the salon experience.
Wenhui Ruan's innovative approach to salon design extends to the functional aspects of the space. By disassembling and visually integrating the original structure, the designer introduces an L-shaped corridor with distinct wash and cut areas, along with a spacious waiting area. This reconfiguration not only enhances the spatial layout but also provides a more versatile and engaging environment for customers.
The project faced challenges in lighting and layout, which were meticulously addressed to ensure an optimal working environment without shadows. The use of simulated natural light guarantees the accurate representation of hair color, offering a balanced solution for both customers and hairdressers.
Recognizing the significance of Banlan Hairdressing's design, the project was honored with the Silver A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious accolade celebrates the exceptional creativity, technical prowess, and innovative approach demonstrated in the salon's design, setting it apart as a remarkable and artistically skillful creation.
