KAO SHIH CHIEH's M and W design project, a modern mountain-inspired residence, was completed in August 2020 in Taiwan, offering a unique and functional living space that maximizes natural lighting and spatial continuity.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KAO SHIH CHIEH's M and W design project is a modern mountain-inspired residence that creatively utilizes a 43 square meters split-level space to offer a unique and functional living environment. The design draws inspiration from the natural scenery of mountains, aiming to make the occupants feel like explorers in the mountains and streams, even within a limited space. The use of modern expression techniques combined with the mezzanine space creates an ambiance that reflects the ups and downs of the mountains, providing a sense of reason, gentleness, and a connection to nature.
The unique properties of the design lie in its elevation characteristics, utilizing the split-level space and flat elevation openings to maximize the floor effect and create a multi-faceted relationship between each space. This approach preserves natural lighting and extends the visual acres to the maximum, offering a distinctive living experience.
The design's realization technology includes the use of glass and mirror composite screens to separate spaces, divert moving lines, and retain the flow of light. The mezzanine above the study distinguishes the levels of public and private areas, resembling different stages of a mountain. The rotating TV wall adds dynamic functionality, creating an open and coherent view between the study and living room.
The design specifications include a bedroom on the mezzanine floor, separated by transparent glass and hollow, resembling an overhanging rock block. The iron staircase and study room in the descending area are predominantly indigo blue, depicting waterfalls and quiet deep pools. The use of special paints on the TV wall and dining table simulates the erosion of minerals in the stream, adding to the design's unique features.
The design interaction allows homeowners to experience the space like mountaineering explorers, discovering different scenery and moods at every turn. The multi-layered space offers functionality for both individual activities and social interactions, creating a versatile living environment.
The project was completed in August 2020 in Taiwan and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements.
