Renowned architect Yu Liu introduces Hui, a whisky bar designed to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor environments, fostering community interaction and relaxation.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned architect Yu Liu has unveiled Hui, a whisky bar designed to harmoniously blend indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a unique environment for community interaction and relaxation. Inspired by the distinctive arched windows and doors of the surrounding buildings, Hui aims to erase the boundaries between interior and exterior, offering a symmetrical, evenly divided space with a clear axis. The design seeks to extend outdoor feelings into the indoor space, creating a harmonious integration between the two environments.
The space, measuring 12 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 3.7 meters high, features a design that emphasizes sedation, tranquility, evocation, and illusion. These elements are manifested through the use of rough, smooth, reflective, and contrasting materials, evoking a variety of emotions and experiences for visitors.
Utilizing a combination of materials such as brick, rock slabs, teak, metal, and mirror stainless steel, Hui creates a sense of speed and direction within the space. The design also incorporates functional lighting to emphasize the spatial axis, while the curved installations at the top add depth and dimension to the environment.
Notably, Hui is not just a bar but also a public living room for the community. When the doors and windows are closed, the space offers privacy and seclusion. However, when opened, the bar transforms into an open space that encourages communication between indoor and outdoor guests, fostering increased interaction and connectivity.
The project, which commenced in October 2020 and concluded in February 2021 in Qinhuangdao, was driven by extensive research and data collection within the utopian community around Beijing. The design aimed to create a space that not only facilitates gatherings among friends but also encourages strangers to interact like neighbors, fostering a sense of community and cultural exchange.
Yu Liu, an architect known for his attention to societal and regional environments, has successfully integrated the interior and exterior spaces of Hui to enhance communication and interaction among customers. His innovative approach has earned Hui the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
