Riverside Study: A Transformative Landscape Renovation

Shanghai Lacime Design Co. Ltd. has completed the Riverside Study project, a remarkable landscape renovation at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. The project, located on the bank of Liwa River, has transformed a former warehouse into a stunning study space that harmonizes with the university's picturesque surroundings.

The design team drew inspiration from the university's Chinese garden landscape and Western classical teaching buildings, integrating elements from the school badge, red brick buildings, and natural plant growth. The result is a space that seamlessly blends with the natural environment, creating a strikingly beautiful interior and exterior under the site's natural conditions.

The project involved the demolition of the original parking shed, expansion of the terrace and gallery frame, and the adoption of classic red-brown rust panels to enhance the design change, pace connection, and function of the study. The square on the south side of the study was transformed into a sunken square, featuring soft yellow wooden steps and a center for plant growth, adding a sense of enclosure and rustic charm.

The landscape walks along the river are paved with gray stone, complemented by different ground covers, while the reflective glass wall of the study ensures privacy while creating a front view of the passage space. The project, completed in 2018, has successfully achieved boundlessness between the inside and outside conditions and natural condition, offering a serene and functional study space.

Shanghai Lacime Design Co. Ltd., known for its expertise in urban planning and landscape design, has added another remarkable project to its portfolio with the completion of the Riverside Study. The team's ability to integrate historical and natural elements into modern design has resulted in a space that reflects art, humanity, and the glorious past of East China Normal University.
