Renowned designer YU, CHIH-YI transforms a nearly 40-year-old house into a multi-functional living and workspace in Taipei City, Taiwan, completed in June 2019.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YU, CHIH-YI's "Life Studio" breathes new life into an aged house, creating a seamless blend of residential and functional spaces. The project, awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, reimagines the interior of a nearly four-decade-old house, turning it into a vibrant living space with a dedicated area for yoga classes and a study room.
The renovation focuses on integrating light and shade to create alternating bright and dark contours, resulting in a simple yet aesthetically pleasing spatial design. By utilizing overlapping, cold tones, and solid materials, the interior exudes a peaceful and warm ambiance.
Cleverly overcoming challenges such as water damage and termite issues, the project innovatively plans an open-style layout to combine living and dining spaces, maximizing natural light from three directions. The rooftop space is transformed into a yoga class area, addressing structural challenges with a visually comfortable proportion and sequence.
