FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Xiang: Mingtse Hung's Modern Chinese Restaurant

Mingtse Hung's Xiang project is a unique modern Chinese restaurant located in the heart of Tainan City, Taiwan. The restaurant's design draws inspiration from the 16th-century "Salon" concept, where guests were invited to socialize, communicate, and enjoy themselves, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for diners. The project, which began in September 2018 and was completed in early November 2018, transformed an over 30-year-old small house into a space that combines art, history, and modern Chinese cuisine.

The design of the restaurant preserves the original structure of the old house, incorporating Chinese red brick, Morandi green, and sand gold custom iron pieces to create a unique ambiance that responds to the Xiang cuisine served. The combination of traditional elements with modern clear water mold and straight grain acrylic devices provides a refreshing departure from the traditional Chinese restaurant while connecting with old cultural memories.

Despite facing challenges such as limited space and a tight timeline, the project successfully divided the narrow interior into three distinct dining areas, accommodating various group sizes while maintaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The design also features a large floor-to-ceiling glass window facing the street, allowing passersby to catch a glimpse of the inviting dining space inside.

Mingtse Hung's Xiang project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in interior space, retail, and exhibition design. The project has effectively transformed a small, old house into a focal point in the neighborhood, offering a modern dining experience that pays homage to the rich history and culture of Chinese cuisine.
