Renowned designer GEORGI KATOV introduces DOT Sofia, a groundbreaking architectural marvel nestled in the heart of old Sofia, Bulgaria. DOT Sofia is a fusion of event space and residential architecture, aiming to contribute to the rediscovery and evolution of this still-hidden urban cultural area.

Embedded in the urban complexity of Sofia's biggest street market, DOT Sofia's two-volume structure offers unexpected faces and scales from various viewpoints. The hybrid program of contemporary art, event space, signature restaurant, and design urban living injects new life into the neglected historic heart of the city, redirecting its inevitable transformation.

The building's rusted steel facade preserves the characteristic aged materiality of the area, while the dynamics of the oversized shutters follow the rhythm of the market life, creating a truly unique architectural experience.

GEORGI KATOV's DOT Sofia boasts a gross floor area of 1576 m², situated on a plot area of 338 m². The monolith construction and kinetic facade technology used in the realization of this design showcase the innovative approach taken in its creation.

DOT Sofia is a testament to KATOV's commitment to integrating architectural interventions seamlessly into their environments, creating compositions that encapsulate the complexity and contradictions of the surroundings. This project has earned KATOV the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design in 2024, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
