Heting Barbecue: A Fusion of Art and Dining

Jianning Wang's Heting Barbecue project seamlessly blends history, culture, and modernity in a 360 square meter space in Jinan. The design draws inspiration from Jinan's rich historical heritage, incorporating elements of wood, stone, light, and shadow to evoke a sense of nostalgia and artistic expression.

The project, which commenced in December 2018 and concluded in December 2019, presents a multifunctional space that encompasses barbecue, izakaya, music, and dining. The design team, including Wang Jianning, Xie Jing, and Jia Xuehan, overcame numerous technical and creative challenges to realize this unique vision.

One of the standout features of Heting Barbecue is the dislocated background wall in the dining area, creating a three-dimensional visual effect under lighting and adding depth to the space. The integration of cherry blossom, sand, stone, and wooden fence elements highlights the exquisite Japanese style, offering patrons an immersive and culturally rich dining experience.

The project's unique spatial pattern and architectural approach to interior design set it apart, providing diners with a captivating environment that intertwines history, art, and modernity. The meticulous attention to detail and the fusion of materials create an open, flowing environment that separates the indoor space from local decoration, enhancing the overall ambiance.

Wang Jianning's dedication to achieving a warm and inviting atmosphere is evident in the careful selection and arrangement of materials, including original decorative elements such as old green brick. The project's indirect light source required precise calibration to achieve the desired warm scene effect, while the use of unique materials posed challenges that were overcome through experimentation and meticulous craftsmanship.

Recognizing the exceptional design and its seamless integration of history, culture, and modernity, Heting Barbecue was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious accolade underscores the project's outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
