The Restoration of the Iconic Northern River Terminal in Moscow
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Northern River Terminal, a historical landmark in Moscow, has been reinaugurated after a two-year reconstruction project led by Olga Smirnova. The restoration aimed to revive the terminal's historical services as a transportation infrastructure and a place of mass attraction. The project successfully preserved the original elements of the building and overhauled missing parts according to historical patterns.
A unique historical piece of architecture from the 1930s, the Palace of the Northern River Terminal, was restored. The successful synthesis of architecture, sculpture, and painting made the station building an outstanding example of the Stalinist Empire style. The restoration project was aimed at reviving the historical services of the river terminal as a transportation infrastructure and a place of mass attraction.
The overall space of the three-floor palace is 5.3 km2, the length is 150 meters, and the height of the steeple is 27 meters. The restoration project was aimed at reviving the historical services of the river terminal as a transportation infrastructure and a place of mass attraction for year-around recreation activities.
