XinY's Skyboat: A Cantilevered Cafe and Glass Walkway Over a Deep Sinkhole
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
XinY's Skyboat is a breathtaking architectural marvel, featuring a cantilevered cafe and a stunning glass walkway, spanning over a deep sinkhole in Leye, China. The project, completed in 2019, pushes the boundaries of structural design and offers a unique experience for visitors.
The two-storey building, with a construction area of 495m2, boasts a cafe, hotel rooms, and a roof viewing platform with a 10m by 12.5m walk-on glass floor. The structure cantilevers 36m over the 613m deep sinkhole, offering visitors an awe-inspiring experience.
With only five supports proposed, the design minimizes damage to local vegetation, and hanging falsework was used during construction to protect the surrounding environment. The project was a collaborative effort involving XinY, Yuanlizhu, Zhong Huaying Studio, LiLi, Shanghai ZhongJian Architectural Design, and China Railway 25th Group 6th Company.
