Basile Boiffils' redesign of Terminal 2 at Changi Airport prioritizes passenger pleasure and comfort through a series of visual, auditory, and interactive experiences, providing Singapore with a new 21st-century gateway to the 'Garden City'.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Basile Boiffils, along with the BOIFFILS Architectures team, has completely redesigned Terminal 2 of Singaporeâs Changi Airport, focusing on traveler experiences and connections to the earthâs elements. The redesign spans 120,000m² across three levels, offering a new airport language that romanticizes the airport experience and infuses pleasurable moments into travel scenarios.
Boiffils Architectures prioritized passenger pleasure and comfort through punctuations of visual, auditory, and interactive experiences. The redesign aims to create a calming environment for travelers, becoming a benchmark for ecological design. Craftsmen from small firms were engaged to create many elements, utilizing artisanal materials wherever possible.
The project was designed as a journey across an indoor landscape encompassing minerals, water features, and lush vegetation in various forms and densities. The redesign broke ground in 2020 and opened in phases in 2022, with an official unveiling ceremony on November 1, 2023, several months ahead of schedule.
