Akitoshi Imafuku's latest project, BE:SIDE, draws inspiration from the iconic wisteria arbor at âFunabashiyaâ flagship store in Kameido, blending history and modernity in a new conceptual shop focusing on health and beauty.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Akitoshi Imafuku, in collaboration with supermaniac inc., unveils BE:SIDE, a new conceptual shop in Aoyama, Japan, blending the rich history of Funabashiya, a renowned arrowroot mochi store since 1805, with a modern focus on health and beauty. The design draws inspiration from the iconic wisteria arbor at Funabashiya's flagship store, creating a dynamic entrance that also functions as outside seating for customers.
To emphasize the linear design, dark grey tiles run from the terrace to the end of the store, creating depth, while the terrace roof, inspired by the wisteria arbor, adds a dynamic touch. The interior is kept minimal to highlight the products, with carefully planned lighting to create a bright yet engaging space.
BE:SIDE, a recipient of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, showcases the fusion of Japanese design, wisteria arbor inspiration, wood elements, and simplicity, offering a unique and inviting space for visitors.
