Yan'an Tourist Service Center by Hongjun Tang, an Urban Renovation Project Completed in 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Yan'an Tourist Service Center, designed by Hongjun Tang, stands as a beacon of urban renovation and ecological restoration in the core area of Yan'an old city. The project, completed on April 1, 2019, addresses the challenges of damaged ecological environment, cultural discontinuity, and unsustainable urban development.
The architects approached the project with the core concept of "integrating site memories into design," focusing on integrating mountain and river, restoring natural ecology, and creating an open urban park that blends into the city and landscape.
The center's unique properties lie in its seamless integration with the natural surroundings, use of regional materials, and inheritance of local cultural context, making it a significant landmark in the region.
The project utilized local craftsmanship and produced social benefits. The architectural facades were mainly made of local beige sandstones, laid seamlessly by local craftsmen based on traditional techniques. The construction process protected and improved local traditional building craftsmanship, providing working opportunities for local craftsmen and achieving great social benefits.
Through multidisciplinary and full-process design solutions, the project restored the damaged vegetation of the mountain and improved the public services of the city. The design also addressed technical challenges related to the complex relationship between the building structure and the surrounding mountain, ensuring seismic safety while integrating the building with the natural landscape.
Hongjun Tang, along with the design team, including Zhuang Weimin, Li Kuang, and others, successfully realized the vision of integrating site memories into design, creating a sustainable and culturally rich tourist service center in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, China.
