gad Unveils International Islands, a Multifunctional Area Inspired by the Maritime Silk Road

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

International Islands: A Multifunctional Area

gad introduces International Islands, a multifunctional area inspired by the Maritime Silk Road, blending Tang and Song traditions with modern design.

The building form, influenced by Tang and Song traditions, showcases classic ratios and patterns, creating a solid and stable structure. The design incorporates the regional styles along the Maritime Silk Road, integrating nature with the building to form a unique spatial pattern.

Cellular aluminum sheets and stones are utilized to ensure the integrity and aesthetic appeal of the design, breaking the area limit of natural stone and providing a remarkable drop-off experience.

The project, initiated in 2016 in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, China, was completed in 2017. The design team, led by Project Director Wei Zhang and Project Creative Shouqing Wu, aimed to integrate historical context, geographic features, and local customs into the design, overcoming various creative and technical challenges.

gad, based in Hangzhou, China, is a comprehensive design institute with Grade A Architectural Engineering Qualification, known for its exceptional works in the architectural industry. The International Islands project has been honored with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its outstanding contribution to architecture, building, and structure design.
