Snorre Stinessen's Narvik Gondola Station, a Marvel of Architecture, Opens for 2019 Winter Season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned architect Snorre Stinessen has unveiled the Narvik Gondola Station, a stunning addition to the Narvik Arctic Resort, embodying the city's industrial history and dramatic natural surroundings. The station, located at the top of the ski slopes in Narvikfjellet, offers breathtaking views of the Ofoten fiord and the World Heritage area of Lofoten.
The station's construction focused on withstanding heavy wind forces and snow loads, featuring a steel frame construction, reinforced concrete foundations, and matte black metal cladding. With dimensions of 41m in length, 15-26m in width, and a top height of 12m above average terrain, the station is tailor-made to gondola specifications and climatic conditions.
Completed during the fall of 2018 and opened for the 2019 winter season, the Narvik Gondola Station provides a safe landing for gondolas and offers a sheltered space for visitors and skiers to exit or board, effectively organizing the flow of people at the resort. The project was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding design and impact on the world.
